Rivos, established in May 2021, is a company dedicated to creating industry-leading, power-efficient, high-performance, and secure server solutions based on RISC-V architecture. The company focuses on workload-defined hardware and supports the demanding requirements of large language models and data analytics through optimized chips that combine RISC-V CPUs and a Data Parallel Accelerator. Rivos is also developing a reference multi-chip OCP Modular Hardware System server and a comprehensive firmware-to-application open software stack compatible with standard frameworks like PyTorch, JAX, Spark, and PostgreSQL. Additionally, the company integrates a RISC-V based root of trust solution, OpenTitan, directly into its system silicon. Headquartered in Santa Clara, CA, Rivos has offices in the USA, UK, EU, and Asia, and employs many remote workers. The company recently raised over $250M in an oversubscribed Series A-3 funding round, with Matrix Capital Management as the largest investor. New investors included Intel Capital, MediaTek, Cambium Capital, CIDC, Capital TEN, Hotung Venture Group, Singularity Capital, Cathay Venture, CDIB Capital, Compal Electronics, and Delta Electronics Capital, while existing investors included Walden Catalyst, Dell Technologies Capital, Koch Disruptive Technologies, VentureTech Alliance, Factory HQ, and Nepenthe Capital. This funding will enable Rivos to tapeout its first silicon product and expand its manufacturing operations, platform hardware, software engineering, and support functions to meet increasing customer demand. Rivos actively supports the open ecosystem and drives standards by leading several key initiatives at RISC-V International and collaborating with open-source RISC-V software developers through the RISC-V Software Ecosystem RISE initiative. The company’s team members have presented at notable events such as the RISC-V Summit, Linux Plumbers Conference, and FOSDEM, and Rivos participated in the Global Semiconductor Alliance’s 2022 Award Nominees.
