SorbiForce Company Information
SorbiForce is a U.S. company that has developed the world’s first sustainable battery made entirely from renewable raw materials without the use of any metals. The company aims to facilitate the complete transition of humanity to renewable energy sources through the creation, implementation, and global expansion of these sustainable batteries in the energy storage market. The batteries are safe, metal-free, environmentally friendly, and made 100% from renewable materials. They are also easy to recycle, with no toxic substances used in the manufacturing process, and all components are safe for humans when fully discharged, allowing for disposal in organic waste containers or use as fertilizer. The main component of the battery is ultra-porous carbon derived from agricultural residues such as straw. The battery dimensions are L 20’ (6.1 m), H 8’6” (2.6 m), W 8’ (2.4 m), with specifications including 0.12-1 MW power, 18.9 tons weight, up to 10 kA current, 0.5-0.7 MWh capacity, up to 120 kV voltage, and a 4/4 h charge/discharge time. The cost of 1 kWh is 1.8 times lower than that of lithium-ion batteries. The battery is resistant to mechanical damage, non-flammable, non-explosive, and has no issues with overcharging, requiring no cooling and having no thermal runaway. The bromine salt ZnBr2 used in the battery is also used in firefighting. These batteries can be utilized in various applications including cities and offices, households, nuclear power plants, hydropower plants, electric car charging stations, city buses, wind farms, and solar power plants. SorbiForce is open to partnerships to lead the energy storage market. Originating from a famous scientific startup in Ukraine, the company has made significant progress over the past five years. In 2017, they received the first samples of highly porous activated carbon materials (ACM) with a specific pore surface of 3000 m2/g. By 2018, they created the first samples weighing 0.2 g. In 2019, they established an R&D center in Western Ukraine and created a battery prototype with a specific energy density of 45-60 Wh/kg. In 2020, they developed large prototypes weighing 0.7 - 1.5 kg suitable for scaling and operational through 1,000+ cycles. By 2021, they completed the testing phase for a 2 kWh battery and tested its performance on electronic household appliances. In 2022, they developed equipment for pilot production of industrial batteries and registered SorbiForce Inc. in Delaware, USA. In 2023, SorbiForce was ranked among the top 5 US battery startups by F6s.com. The company has prepared five patent applications during its research and owns 25 patents, integrating over 100 technological solutions into its battery.
