Gevo

Gevo, based in Englewood, Colorado, is a company dedicated to producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), renewable natural gas (RNG), and other renewable products. The company engages in sustainable farming practices such as regenerative agriculture, reduced tillage, and composting. Gevo’s Net-Zero 1 project in Lake Preston, South Dakota, aims to produce energy-dense liquid hydrocarbons using renewable energy and is expected to generate approximately 65 million gallons per year. This project is also anticipated to create around 1,500 construction jobs and 460 full-time jobs. In Northwest Iowa, Gevo operates an RNG plant that generates renewable natural gas from dairy cow manure. The development facility in Luverne, Minnesota, focuses on producing isobutanol and ethanol using low-carbon renewable resource-based carbohydrates as raw materials. Gevo is also developing renewable electricity and renewable natural gas for use in its production processes. The company’s products perform as well or better than traditional fossil-based fuels while substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Gevo’s technology enables the production of certain plastics, such as polyester, with more sustainable ingredients. The company uses the Argonne GREET model to measure carbon intensity and track sustainability. Gevo partners with farmers to implement sustainable farming practices that improve soil health and carbon sequestration. The company focuses on creating a circular economy by efficiently using every renewable resource available. Additionally, Gevo produces high-protein animal feed and energy-dense liquids from the same corn kernels, and plans to use wind power and biogas for renewable energy needs at its production facilities. Gevo received a federal grant of up to $30 million from the USDA for the Climate-Smart Farm-to-Flight Program and is developing green hydrogen from water and renewable electricity. Gevo believes in the potential to generate project and corporate returns that justify the build-out of a multi-billion dollar business.
