Applied Bioplastics Company Information
Applied Bioplastics is a company dedicated to supplying economically sustainable plant-based plastic alternatives that help reduce petroleum dependency, pollution, and habitat destruction. The company supports eco-friendly agriculture in developing countries through its supply chains. One of its key product lines, BioFi, is a thermoplastic that combines plant fibers with standard, recycled, or biobased polymers. BioFi can be injection molded or extruded into various items used in household, automotive, appliance, electronics, and outdoor equipment industries, enabling manufacturers to reduce their carbon footprint and dependence on virgin polymers without changing existing equipment. Another flagship product, Jutin, is part of the BTTR Board product line and serves as a plant-based alternative to traditional polyester resin. Jutin is used in construction, automotive, and aerospace industries, and its structural integrity is reinforced by jute, an abundant crop grown in Bangladesh. Jutin replaces up to 50% of petroleum-based inputs in the composite and outperforms many traditional building materials in terms of price, tensile strength, dimensional stability, and overall durability. It can also be used as acoustic paneling for sound dampening applications and is resistant to water, heat, and fire, while not being susceptible to corrosion or degradation. Applied Bioplastics’ mission includes supplying decarbonized bioplastics, supporting sustainable agriculture, and building a sustainable growth engine for plastic recycling and eco-friendly agriculture in developing economies. The company aims to convert biobased products from an expensive and uncommon solution to a globally viable alternative, providing significant ROI to investors and customers. Applied Bioplastics has been featured in Fast Company for its inexpensive and durable roofing and siding product line, BTTR Board, and has been selected by R/GA Ventures and UConn to participate in the Future Climate Venture Studio in 2023. The company graduated from the Newchip accelerator, a 6-month business accelerator, and won the Social & Culture category of SXSW Pitch 2021. It also completed the 2020 MassChallenge accelerator program in Austin, TX, and joined Greentown Labs as one of 16 inaugural members at their new Houston location.
