Earth Advantage

Earth Advantage is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in downtown Portland, Oregon, in the PAE Living Building. The organization is dedicated to creating an informed and humane residential real estate marketplace by leveraging credible, nationally-recognized, and locally-applicable standards that document the climate and health impacts of homes. Over the past 20 years, Earth Advantage has developed standards, advanced energy codes, and certified nearly 40,000 residential dwellings. The organization is also a national Home Energy Score partner and a long-time advocate of home performance data transparency, with its Green Building Registry® housing over three million records and serving as the largest single-source of building performance data in the United States. Earth Advantage’s programs include Single Family Home Certification, Multifamily Building Certification, and specialized training for accessory dwelling units (ADUs). The organization also addresses climate vulnerability through direct services, advocacy, and finance system reform, working with local governments to mitigate the immediate impacts of climate change on vulnerable communities. Additionally, Earth Advantage is training a diverse, carbon-neutral construction workforce to address the growing housing labor gap and has trained over 17,000 individuals in sustainable building practices. The organization has been awarded $3.5 million in grant funding to serve as a regional Program Administrator for Oregon Department of Energy’s Community Heat Pump Deployment program and aims to install 15,000 energy-efficient heat pump/cooling units over five years through its Cooling Portland program. Earth Advantage’s technology solutions streamline home energy assessments and provide greater data transparency, with initiatives like the Home Energy Fit™ program and SEED® Platform supporting energy efficiency and quality assurance. The organization partners with public and private sectors to build or enhance IT solutions that help reduce the climate impact of the built environment.
