PsiQuantum Company Information

PsiQuantum is at the forefront of quantum computing, aiming to build the world’s first utility-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer in Australia. The company has received a substantial investment of $940 million AUD ($620 million USD) from the Australian government to support its development efforts. PsiQuantum utilizes a photonics-based architecture for its quantum computers, which allows for manufacturing in conventional silicon chip foundries. This approach leverages integrated photonics technology initially developed for telecom and datacenter networking applications, enabling the production of quantum photonic chips and cryogenic CMOS chips using advanced semiconductor tools in collaboration with manufacturing partners. PsiQuantum’s photonic qubits are networked and modularized using standard optical fiber, avoiding the need for exotic materials and processes. These qubits do not feel heat, do not decohere, and can operate at high fidelity at room temperature. The company’s cryogenic quantum modules, containing photonic quantum hardware, are installed in SLAC’s LCLS-II cryoplant facility, which provides kilowatts of cooling power, far exceeding the capabilities of traditional dilution refrigerators. PsiQuantum has partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy’s SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and Daresbury SFTC in the UK to validate intermediate-scale systems and access high-powered cryogenic cooling capabilities. The company has also announced the Quantum Resource Estimation Format (QREF) and the beta release of Bartiq, a Quantum Resource Estimator for Fault Tolerant Quantum Computing. PsiQuantum engages with customers and partners across various sectors, including climate, healthcare, finance, energy, agriculture, transportation, and communications, to evaluate and optimize quantum computing applications. The company’s software supports programming quantum computers using Python and includes a library of over 50 proven quantum algorithms and subroutines. PsiQuantum is collaborating with Mercedes Benz to explore the potential of quantum computing in revolutionizing Lithium-ion battery design. Founded in 2015 by a team with a combined sixty years of academic experience, PsiQuantum is committed to building and deploying the world’s first useful quantum computer, requiring error correction and very large-scale systems.
