Tiago Nascimento

Tiago Nascimento serves as a Sr. Software Engineer at the Rust Foundation, an organization focused on the stewardship of the Rust programming language. His work includes significant advancements in digital identity technologies. He played a pivotal role in the expansion of California’s mobile driver’s license program, incorporating advanced features like face biometrics and liveness detection. Nascimento was instrumental in conducting interoperability tests for mobile driver’s licenses, which included collaborations with TSA for PreCheck lanes at airports and with various government and business entities to standardize digital identity solutions. Under his leadership, the pilot program for digital driver’s licenses in California saw substantial expansion, allowing more citizens to access their IDs via mobile devices. Additionally, he successfully led a Series A funding round, raising $34 million from notable investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Y Combinator, and Okta Ventures. Nascimento also contributed to the team by hiring key personnel such as Wei Sun as VP, Head of Engineering, and David Kelts as Director, Head of Credible Platform.
