IndyGo is the largest public transportation provider in Indiana, serving as a critical transit system for the Indianapolis area. In 2023, IndyGo’s fixed route ridership exceeded 6.7 million, marking a 20% increase from the previous year. The fleet consists of 232 buses, including 132 diesel buses, 41 hybrid buses, and 59 electric buses. IndyGo Access offers a reservation-based, shared-ride service for individuals who meet the criteria established under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. IndyGo’s Red Line, launched in 2019, is one of the longest Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes, running 13 miles through the heart of Indianapolis and serving over 50,000 residents and nearly 150,000 jobs. The Purple Line, extending 15.2 miles between Indianapolis and the City of Lawrence, is scheduled to launch in late 2024, while the Blue Line, providing rapid transit along Washington Street between Cumberland and the Airport, is set for a 2027 launch. The three BRT lines will bring over $400 million in safety enhancements and infrastructure improvements to Indianapolis. The BRT system features in-median locations, ticket vending machines, digital screens with real-time arrival information, level station access, and well-lit boarding areas. IndyGo’s MyKey fare system offers fare capping, allowing riders to pay as they go with a daily or weekly cap. The Red Line Enhancements Project includes installing rub rails at station platforms and reinforcing bus pads with above-standard pavement materials. IndyGo’s system comprises more than 4,000 unique stops, equipped with amenities such as shelters, benches, bike racks, and solar lights. The Adopt-A-Stop program encourages businesses, community groups, and individuals to help maintain stops by adopting a trash bin and committing to litter pick-up and bin emptying. Launched in May 2022, the Wellness in Transit program includes a mobile medical clinic offering free healthcare services, mental health services, rapid STI and HIV testing, and housing resources. The Music in Transit program is an award-winning concert web series featuring local Indianapolis musicians performing on an IndyGo bus. The Food in Transit program provides fresh, affordable, and locally-grown produce to transit riders through a partnership with Growing Places Indy and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. IndyGo’s East Campus, located at 9503 E. 33rd St., offers a training course for operators, large public meeting spaces, and additional office spaces. The East Campus Expansion project involves renovations and the construction of a new fleet terminal and maintenance facility.
