Huma is a digital health company whose platform supports over 3,000 hospitals and clinics and serves a network of 27 million patients. The platform is designed to almost double clinical capacity and reduce readmission rates by over 30%. Huma has shipped over 1 million devices to support its projects and has received FDA Class II clearance for its disease-agnostic Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) platform, which can monitor patients of all ages and conditions, including paediatrics and pregnancy. The platform is device-agnostic, integrating with external third-party devices such as heart rate and blood sugar monitors, and smart inhalers. It also hosts artificial intelligence algorithms that aid in screening, diagnosis, dosing recommendations, clinical decision making, and prognostication. Huma’s cardiovascular risk score algorithm is part of a nationwide screening programme in the US aimed at improving cardiovascular health. The platform is used for the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of a wide range of diseases and is compliant with IEC 60601-1-8, allowing data interpretation triggering on-time alerts. Huma’s platform is certified to ISO 13485: 2016 and ISO 27001: 2013, registered as a Medical Device Class IIb with the MHRA, and has US FDA Class II clearance. It is also committed to GDPR compliance and is registered on the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit, with CyberEssentials and CyberEssentials Plus certifications. The platform supports remote patient monitoring (RPM) and virtual wards, and includes features such as eConsent, eCOA/ePRO, telemedicine, and connected devices. Huma’s platform has been used in clinical settings worldwide, including rural clinics, pharmacies, and national health systems, achieving a 90-95% adherence and retention rate across care and research deployments. It has been awarded the 2022 Prix Galien award for digital health and was selected as one of ‘The Most Important Healthcare Design of 2021’ by Fast Company and one of ‘Europe’s 1000 Fastest Growing Companies of 2023’ by Financial Times. The platform is used in a study to record continuous physiological measures from patients with COPD to develop an AI model for early intervention, and supports the care of patients undergoing Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) in collaboration with Smith & Nephew. Huma is part of a consortium led by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and National University Health System (NUHS) to develop solutions for high cholesterol, high blood sugar, and hypertension, and another consortium led by Imperial College Health Partners (ICHP) creating a Health Data Research Hub for Real-World Evidence in the UK. The platform is used in collaboration with Tencent to establish a medical AI lab, with Medpod to build a remote patient monitoring solution, and with China Resources to scale remote patient monitoring solutions across hospitals in China.
