Broad Institute

The Broad Institute, marking its 20th anniversary in 2024, is a pivotal player in the field of biomedicine. It operates the Genomics Platform, capable of sequencing a whole human genome every four minutes, and has processed over 37 million COVID-19 tests by the end of 2022. In a remarkable feat, the institute converted a clinical genetics processing lab into a COVID-19 testing facility in less than two weeks during March 2020. The Broad Institute also plays a crucial role in global health through its partnerships with over 3,200 institutions across 76 countries, facilitating the distribution of CRISPR genome-editing reagents. Additionally, it has screened over 1,275 cancer cell lines as part of the Cancer Dependency Map project. Environmental sustainability is also a focus, with over 80 percent of waste from its Genomics Platform being recycled or incinerated for electricity generation.
