Avnos Company Information

Avnos is at the forefront of commercializing advanced technology in Direct Air Capture (DAC) of CO2. The company operates a pilot plant in Bakersfield, California, and has launched the first commercial pilot of its proprietary Hybrid Direct Air Capture (HDAC) technology in November 2023. Avnos’ HDAC solution inverts the traditional water paradigm in DAC by producing water, eliminating heat consumption, and reducing costs. This innovative system uses only air, electricity, and solid sorbents to capture both water and CO2 from the ambient air, making it suitable for water-scarce environments and projecting the lowest Levelized Cost of Capture in DAC. Avnos is building a second pilot plant with support from the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Office of Naval Research, and a third, larger commercial demonstration unit funded in collaboration with major sequestration partners. The company has secured $36 million in Series A funding led by NextEra Energy Resources and raised an additional $80 million through strategic partnerships with ConocoPhillips, JetBlue Ventures, and Shell Ventures. Avnos’ HDAC technology eliminates the need for heat in CO2 capture by using a moisture swing adsorbent, making it the most scalable, adaptable, and cost-effective DAC solution available.
