Mayuka Sarukkai

Mayuka Sarukkai serves as a Data Scientist at Recidiviz, where she plays a pivotal role in guiding public data efforts aimed at making criminal justice data more available, accessible, and insightful. She leads the Justice Counts initiative, a federally funded project that seeks to enhance the availability of criminal justice data nationwide. Additionally, she oversees the development of Spotlight, a public dashboard tool designed to provide deeper insights into criminal justice data. Sarukkai is driven by a belief in the power of technology to support a healthy and well-functioning democracy. Beyond her professional endeavors, she has a unique personal routine involving a specific tea for different times of the day: green tea in the morning, chai in the afternoon, oolong in the evenings, and chamomile at night, always consumed without any additives. Sarukkai also has a notable interest in culinary experiences, having documented every bowl of ramen she consumed in 2019, totaling 30 unique bowls, with detailed ratings for each. Her favorite television binge was ‘Never Have I Ever,’ and the book that significantly impacted her perspective is ‘Post-Truth’ by Lee McIntyre. If given a choice, she would choose to eat ramen, specifically a great bowl of tonkotsu, exclusively forever. Sarukkai also advises others to listen to their authentic selves and to spend more time with their parents, reflecting her values of authenticity and family.
