Long Island Cares Company Information

Long Island Cares, established in 1980 by singer-songwriter and activist Harry Chapin, is dedicated to addressing hunger and food insecurity in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The organization distributes more than ten million pounds of food and supplies each year through its main office and warehouse in Hauppauge, along with five satellite offices. Long Island Cares supports nearly 400 member agencies and provides various programs such as First Stop Food Pantries, Gus’ Retail Rescue Program, and Baxter’s Pet Pantry. Additionally, the organization offers educational initiatives like New Paths to Achievement and Just Say Yes to Fruits and Vegetables, and engages in advocacy efforts to tackle the root causes of hunger. Long Island Cares also coordinates youth programs, including a Children’s Mobile Breakfast Food Truck and Kids Cafe, and operates a Matching Gift Program to double donations from participating companies.
