Hermeus Company Information
Hermeus is an innovative aerospace company dedicated to the rapid development and operationalization of hypersonic aircraft. By integrating advanced computing and autonomy with a hardware-rich, iterative approach, Hermeus aims to make hypersonic flight both quick and cost-effective. The company’s product lineup includes the Chimera, Quarterhorse, Darkhorse, and Halcyon, each tailored for different aspects of hypersonic technology and applications. The Chimera engine, a notable innovation, combines turbojet and ramjet technologies, enabling aircraft to take off like conventional planes, break the sound barrier, and then accelerate to hypersonic speeds. Quarterhorse is set to challenge the airspeed record held by the SR-71, serving as a testbed for further commercial development. Darkhorse, designed for uncrewed missions, focuses on defense and national security with its multi-mission flexibility and full reusability. Halcyon, on the other hand, is targeted at transforming commercial air travel by significantly reducing flight times on over 125 trans-oceanic routes, such as from New York to London, potentially saving millions of hours annually. Hermeus has secured $100 million in Series B funding, led by Sam Altman, and has entered into a multi-year contract with the Defense Innovation Unit to advance its hypersonic aircraft technologies.
