Divert is a company with 16 years of industry experience, specializing in preventing food waste and converting wasted food into renewable energy. The company supports over 6,683 retail locations across all 50 states and has donated the equivalent of 11.7 million meals to the food insecure. Divert has processed 2.6 billion pounds of wasted food through its proprietary processes, which remove carbon from the food value chain. Their solutions include preventing food waste, providing edible food to communities in need, and converting wasted food into renewable energy. In 2008, Divert developed the Alpha System, a first-of-its-kind modular system to convert wasted food into energy. By 2010, Divert designed, built, and operated the largest food waste anaerobic digestion (AD) facility in the U.S. for Kroger. In 2012, the company developed the first FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)-compliant reverse logistics process. They released a third-generation proprietary IoT platform in 2014 to deliver new data and impactful results. In 2016, Divert’s engineering team designed a proprietary liquefaction system to efficiently process packaged organics. The company uses AI and IoT solutions to help retailers maximize source reduction and improve food freshness. In 2022, Divert announced plans to open 30 full-scale wasted food to RNG facilities, aiming to be within 100 miles of 80% of the U.S. population by 2031. Their new Integrated Diversion & Energy Facilities support wasted food prevention through source reduction and food donation, deploying almost all of the EPA’s most preferred pathways for wasted food reduction.
