ByteDance is a global technology company founded in 2012. It launched its flagship product, Toutiao, in August 2012, followed by Douyin in September 2016. The company accelerated its globalization efforts with the launch of TikTok approximately a year after Douyin, and acquired Musical.ly in November 2017, merging it with TikTok. TikTok has since become the leading destination for short-form mobile videos worldwide. ByteDance offers a suite of more than a dozen products and services, including TikTok, CapCut, TikTok Shop, Lark, Pico, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. It also provides products and services specific to the China market, such as Toutiao, Douyin, Fanqie, Xigua, Feishu, and Douyin E-commerce. ByteDance employs over 150,000 people based in nearly 120 cities globally, including Austin, Barcelona, Beijing, Berlin, Dubai, Dublin, Hong Kong, Jakarta, London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Seattle, Seoul, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Singapore, and Tokyo. The company launched Helo in India as a social media platform in June 2018 and Lark in Japan and Singapore as its first enterprise product in March 2019. ByteDance became the controlling stakeholder of the Indonesian news app BABE in December 2016.
