Will Higgins

Will Higgins serves as a Principal Scientist and is recognized as an industry expert with a robust career spanning over 15 years across various company sizes and disciplines. He spent a significant portion of his career, a decade, working on small molecule drug development at prominent companies such as Merck, Eli Lilly, and Johnson & Johnson. Following this, Higgins dedicated five years to the development of complex, bioengineered tissues at Organovo, a leader in 3D bioprinting technology, focusing on both in vitro and clinical applications. A major theme of his work has been kidney research, where he has spent over ten years studying renal clearance mechanisms to better understand pharmacokinetic profiles and developing bioengineered kidney tissues from primary and stem cell sources. Higgins has authored 14 publications, which have collectively garnered over 750 citations, underscoring his impactful contributions to the field. He has also played a key role in mentoring junior staff, managing external collaborations, and facilitating the transfer of complex technical processes between organizations to foster innovation. Higgins holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biotechnology from The Pennsylvania State University.
