Brian Connon has had a distinguished career in both military and civilian roles related to oceanography and hydrography. Serving for 28 years in the US Navy, Connon held several key positions including the Commanding Officer of the Navy’s Fleet Survey Team and Superintendent of the US Naval Observatory. Following his naval service, he became the Director of the Maritime Safety Office at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and later led the Hydrographic Science Research Center at the University of Southern Mississippi. Connon is a certified hydrographer and has earned two Master’s degrees, one in Meteorology and Oceanography from the Naval Postgraduate School and another in Hydrography from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is a Chartered Marine Scientist specializing in Hydrography, a Fellow of the Institute for Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, and the President (elect) of The Hydrographic Society of America. His extensive experience and qualifications have established him as a leader in the field of ocean mapping.
