Sabin Vaccine Institute

The Sabin Vaccine Institute is dedicated to making vaccines more accessible, enabling innovation, and expanding immunization globally. It has a robust ecosystem of funders, innovators, implementers, practitioners, policy makers, and public stakeholders. The institute’s Boost Community supports immunization professionals worldwide by providing a platform for connection, resources, and training, having hosted over 200 learning opportunities since its launch in January 2020. The Global HPV Consortium, launched by the institute, aims to prevent HPV infection and eliminate cervical cancer as a public health concern. Additionally, the Sabin Vaccine Institute hosts the International Rotavirus Symposium, a biennial event for researchers and stakeholders focused on preventing rotavirus. The institute has received Charity Navigator’s highest rating for fiscal responsibility and is a member of WHO’s Vaccine Safety Net. Its Vaccination Action Network (VAN) is an Africa-led collaborative that brings together vaccination leaders and senior public health officials to solve challenges in improving COVID-19 vaccination rates. The institute’s research and development program prioritizes strong vaccine candidates for infectious diseases that lack commercial value, such as Marburg and Ebola Sudan viruses. The Sabin Vaccine Institute has several disease focus areas including COVID-19, Ebola Sudan, HPV, Influenza, Marburg, and Typhoid. Its Applied Epidemiology program partners with local researchers to gather and analyze data on infectious disease spread and the impact of new vaccines. The Influenzer Initiative works to accelerate the development of a universal influenza vaccine. The Social and Behavioral Research Grants Program funds locally led research to explore the social and behavioral drivers of vaccine acceptance and demand in low- and middle-income countries. The institute’s BRAVE and BOLD approach focuses on reversing declines in global immunization by putting communities at the heart of co-created solutions. Lastly, the Global Mass Vaccination Site Collaborative provides resources and tools to support immunization professionals in low- and middle-income countries during mass vaccination efforts.
