Suhas Pai

Suhas Pai is a distinguished figure in the field of applied artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and machine learning. He holds the title of CTO & Founder and is deeply engaged in the development and research of large language models (LLMs) and information retrieval systems. Pai is in the process of authoring a book on large language models, which will be published by O’Reilly Media. He plays a significant role in the open-source community as the Privacy co-chair at Big Science for the BLOOM LLM, which was the world’s largest open-source multilingual LLM at the time of its release. Additionally, Pai has contributed to various other LLMs and their training datasets. He has been the chair of the Toronto Machine Learning Summit for the past three years and serves as the NLP lead at Aggregate Intellect, a community focused on machine learning. Pai earned a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Eindhoven University of Technology in The Netherlands and has a background as a senior software engineer at IBM, where he worked for over five years in information security. Beyond his professional pursuits, Pai has a keen interest in politics, data-driven political strategies, densely populated cities and public transit. He is also known for humorously repeating the same April Fools’ joke every year.
