Will Bisset's Collaboration with EnviroFlight

In a strategic initiative to enhance black soldier fly (BSF) production, Will Bisset collaborated with EnviroFlight to develop and trial the Entosight Neo, a cutting-edge technology for neonate counting and dosing. This collaboration was formalized with a Letter of Intent (LOI) in October 2023, followed by the deployment and trial of the Entosight Neo at EnviroFlight’s Innovation Center in Apex, North Carolina in November 2023. The aim is to leverage technology to optimize production efficiencies, benefiting the entire BSF industry.

Will Bisset's Research Initiatives

Will Bisset unveiled a groundbreaking £430,000 research program with the University of Leeds named InSAFE, funded by Innovate UK and BBSRC. This program focuses on developing protocols and codes of practice for the UK insect farming industry by evaluating the use of non-permissive feedstocks like pig slurry, chicken manure, and sewage sludge in black soldier fly rearing. The research will provide critical insights into the bacterial microbiome, pathogen loads, presence of AMR genes, and heavy metal content before and after insect bioconversion.

Will Bisset has been at the forefront of innovation in insect farming, having developed and installed Entoexplore, a state-of-the-art insect-rearing demonstrator facility at The National Pig Centre on the University of Leeds’ research farm in Yorkshire. Entoexplore is unique as it is the only commercial demonstrator in the UK utilizing non-permissive feedstocks. This facility mirrors commercial rearing environments with an advanced environmental control system and Wi-Fi data monitoring, setting a new standard in the industry.
