Democracy Works, founded in 2010, is dedicated to helping millions of Americans vote by providing reliable and useful voting guidance through trusted sites, apps, and groups. The organization collaborates with election officials, tech platforms like Google and TikTok, nonprofit groups such as AARP and DoSomething, academic institutions like Princeton University and the University of Florida, and workplaces including Starbucks and Salesforce. Democracy Works offers a digital platform that makes voting easier and more accessible in all 50 states and provides an API with comprehensive data and voting guidance for thousands of elections each year. Their cutting-edge dataset ensures millions know their voting location and ballot information, and they have developed a first-of-its-kind tool that empowers election officials to easily track and count mail-in ballots. In 2022, Democracy Works sent over 54 million election notifications and supported over 3,500 elections, with plans to support more than 3,000 elections in 2023. Their data was viewed over 500 million times in 2020 alone, and they have guided 14 million voters through the voting process. TurboVote, one of their key tools, helps Americans vote in all 50 states and D.C. by providing lifelong voter support across elections, partnering with over 300 campuses, brands, and nonprofits. Ballot Scout tracks mail-in ballots using USPS Intelligent Mail barcodes and partners with nearly 200 state and local election offices. Civic Alliance, co-founded by Democracy Works and the CAA Foundation, includes over 1,200 member companies with a combined 5 million employees. Democracy Works received a landmark gift from MacKenzie Scott, the largest single donation the organization has received, and released a new version of the Elections API in January 2024. They have also partnered with Anthropic to direct users to TurboVote for accurate voting information and with TikTok to power TikTok’s 2024 Election Center. In 2022, they answered 51,822 voter inquiries with a median reply time of five minutes.
