The Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development (COAD) offers a comprehensive array of services aimed at improving the quality of life for residents in Ohio and surrounding areas. COAD provides direct services in early childcare and education, AmeriCorps Seniors programs, home weatherization and energy efficiency, and healthcare coordination. The organization operates the Ohio Weatherization Training Center, which offers accredited courses and certifications, and serves as the administrative and advocacy hub for a 17-member Community Action Network. COAD’s energy efficiency and weatherization services help customers reduce energy use and lower fuel bills, while also providing training and technical assistance for the Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP). Additionally, COAD runs the Ohio Center for Lead Abatement, offering training courses and technical assistance for environmental remediation. The David V. Stivison Appalachian Community Action Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to students in its service area. COAD4Kids offers childcare resources and referrals from four regional offices. Senior programs, including the Foster Grandparents Program, Senior Companions Program, and Retired Senior Volunteer Program, provide volunteer opportunities for individuals aged 55 and older through AmeriCorps Seniors. The Pathways Community Hub assists with pregnancy support, family planning, food and medicine assistance, health insurance, and more. COAD has been providing these services for over 51 years, serving all 88 Ohio counties and several other states through its accredited Weatherization Training Center. The organization also offers scholarships and financial assistance to students in the Appalachian Ohio region.
