Compose's History

Originally known as MongoHQ, Compose was founded to provide a fully-managed platform for deploying, hosting, and scaling databases. The company participated in the S11 batch of Y-Combinator and has since grown to a team of 51 members based in San Mateo, CA. In its journey, Compose has evolved significantly, extending its services beyond just database management to include a variety of solutions aimed at simplifying and securing cloud infrastructures.

Compose's Acquisition by IBM

Compose was acquired by IBM, integrating its robust database management services into the IBM Cloud portfolio. This acquisition has enabled IBM Cloud to offer a hybrid, open, and resilient platform that supports a wide array of databases including PostgreSQL, Redis, and MongoDB.
