Dan Bakal

Dan Bakal serves as the Senior Program Director for Climate and Energy at Ceres, a role he has held since 2000. In this capacity, Bakal oversees the climate and energy team’s work on sectoral decarbonization, industry engagement, and shareholder advocacy. He has been instrumental in leading Ceres’ initiatives to decarbonize the electric power sector. Over the years, Bakal has contributed to numerous reports that evaluate the power sector’s performance, including 19 editions of the Benchmarking Air Emissions of the 100 Largest Power Producers. His work has received extensive media coverage, being cited in major publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Financial Times, Fortune, BusinessWeek, and The Boston Globe. Bakal has also appeared on television networks like CNN Headline News and CNBC’s shows Closing Bell and Power Lunch. Prior to his tenure at Ceres, he worked as a research associate at the Rocky Mountain Institute. An avid cyclist, Bakal participated in the 2015 and 2019 Climate Rides from Bar Harbor to Boston. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
