Will Bowens, serving as the Vice President of Sales, has significantly contributed to healthcare through innovative text messaging interventions aimed at improving patient outcomes across several clinical areas. He implemented texting programs in the P.O.W.E.R. (Preventing Obesity With Eating Right) medical group, enhancing attendance at weight loss group visits. Bowens also spearheaded a randomized clinical trial that demonstrated how text messaging combined with mailed FIT kits could boost colorectal cancer screening rates among underserved populations. His work in the On The Move trial tested the effectiveness of text-delivered physical activity advice versus traditional human phone advisors in a Latino cohort. Additionally, Bowens implemented a Food Bank–Based Diabetes Prevention Intervention, which markedly improved food security, physical activity, and depression scores among high-risk, food-insecure clients. His mixed-methods pilot study indicated that text-message interventions could enhance diabetes care management for low-income patients. Furthermore, his research on text messaging support for weight loss in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) showed notable improvements in weight loss and decreased ALT levels. Bowens also developed a text-messaging program that successfully promoted diabetes self-management, lowering the mean FSBG levels among rural diabetes patients. His work is distinguished by being the only patient activation tool with independently verified research from academic medical centers showing clinical outcome improvements.
