David Lobell

David Lobell serves as the Benjamin M. Page Professor in the Department of Earth System Science at Stanford University. He holds multiple key positions, including the Gloria and Richard Kushel Director of the Center on Food Security and the Environment, the William Wrigley Senior Fellow at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, and a senior fellow at both the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy and Research. Lobell’s research primarily focuses on the development and application of unique datasets to analyze agricultural issues in rural regions worldwide. His contributions to the field have earned him several prestigious awards, such as the Macelwane Medal from the American Geophysical Union in 2010, a MacArthur Fellowship in 2013, and the National Academy of Sciences Prize in Food and Agriculture Sciences in 2022. In recognition of his significant scientific achievements, he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2023.
