Rotana Hay embarked on his academic journey in Cambodia, completing high school with distinction. He was awarded a prestigious full scholarship by the Singaporean government to attend the National University of Singapore, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering in 2008. Furthering his education, Hay completed a Master of Science in Concrete Structures and Business Management from the Imperial College of London in just one year. His academic pursuits culminated in a Fulbright Science & Technology fellowship, enabling him to pursue a PhD at the University of California, Berkeley. His research focused on green high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete, showcasing his commitment to sustainable engineering solutions.

Rotana Hay's Professional Background

Rotana Hay has amassed a wealth of experience in both industry and academia. He began his career as a structural engineer at Arup Singapore, where he worked from 2010 to 2012. Following his PhD, he returned to Cambodia to serve as a Technical Manager for a ready-mixed concrete supplier. His career then took him to NYU Abu Dhabi, where he worked as a Research Scientist and Laboratory Manager at the Advanced Materials & Building Efficiency Laboratory (AMBER Lab). Throughout his career, Hay has been dedicated to advancing the field of civil engineering through research, innovation, and practical application.

Rotana Hay's Achievements

Rotana Hay's contributions to civil engineering are underscored by his numerous achievements. His PhD research led to the development of a novel double-skin façade system using green high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete, which was validated through a comprehensive life cycle assessment for sustainability. His work has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals, covering topics such as calcium alumino silicate hydrates (C-(A-)S-H), reactive MgO cement (RMC), and limestone calcined clay cement (LC3). Hay's professional credentials include being a registered Professional Engineer (PE) with the Board of Engineers of Cambodia (BEC) and a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in the UK.
